The film shot entirely in East Tennessee, is based on the original short story titled “I Hate to See that Evening Sun Go Down” by acclaimed Southern author William Gay, one of the leaders of the “New South” literary revival. The screenplay, skillfully adapted by writer-director Scott Teems, was the winner of the prestigious Emerging Narrative Screenplay Award at the IFP Market in New York City, besting more than 1,500 other projects. The theatrical release was in 2009, and That Evening Sun has won top honors in over 11 festivals across the country. Produced by Ray McKinnon, Walton Goggins, Laura Smith, and Terence Berry.
